Description
Reminiscent of the great Chianti Classicos of Central Italy, this rich medium-bodied cuvée is comprised of 73% Sangiovese from the Cypress Ranch in the Pope Valley region of Napa and 27% Merlot from the Blackridge Vineyard in Los Gatos. The two lots were vinified separately, and barrel-aged for 30-months in French Oak, yielding a subtle imprint of vanilla and dusty earth tones on the vibrant fruit flavors of plum and black cherry. The moderate climate of Pope Valley guarantees full flavor development of the Sangiovese, and the integration of Merlot enhances the color, body, bouquet and complexity of flavors, and produces a wine with balanced tannins and a greater capacity for aging. This blend possesses a brooding astringent aspect that heightens its intrigue and makes it the perfect companion to a variety of hearty Italian dishes. It is ready for drinking now, but will continue to age gracefully in the bottle for a further 5-8 years. Molto bello!| Vintage | 2011 |
