2023 Sangiovese
Description
VINEYARD. Machedo Creek, Santa Clara Valley
WINEMAKING. Machado Creek Vineyards is situated in the Santa Clara Valley, a region known for its warm climate and diverse terroir. This area benefits from both coastal influences and elevation, creating ideal conditions for grape growing. The wine is barrel-aged for 18 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels (50% new). This dual aging process contributes to the wine's complexity, with the French oak imparting elegance and subtle spice, while the American oak adds a touch of sweetness and richness.
TASTING
Aroma: Aromatic notes of ripe red cherries and plums dominate, complemented by hints of dried herbs, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla..
Palate: The wine offers juicy flavors of fresh strawberries and cranberries. A backbone of bright acidity enhances the fruitiness, while soft, rounded tannins provide structure. Nuances of leather and baking spices from the barrel aging emerge on the mid-palate, leading to a harmonious finish.
FOOD PAIRING. Pairs beautifully with classic Italian dishes such as osso buco, mushroom risotto, or a simple margherita pizza. Its acidity also makes it a great match for tomato-based sauces and grilled meats.
