VINEYARD. Bechthold Vineyard, Mokelumne River—the world’s oldest Cinsault vineyard. Organically farmed.
WINEMAKING. The Bechthold Vineyard was planted in 1886 and is home to the world's oldest surviving Cinsault vines. The thick-trunked, gnarled, twisted vines resemble short trees rather than traditional grapevines. While much of Europe's vineyards were devastated by the phylloxera epidemic of the late 1800s and replanted on American rootstock, these own-rooted California vines endured. Their remarkable survival makes Bechthold a living piece of wine history, and we are honored to produce wine from here.
TASTING
Aroma: Lifted aromas of fresh strawberry, rose petal, and a hint of vanilla.
Palate: Bright and silky, with fresh red berry flavors, delicate floral notes, and a touch of vanilla. Wonderfully soft and refreshing, its light body and smooth finish make it effortlessly drinkable.
FOOD PAIRING. Best served slightly chilled alongside Tuscan picnic fare, charcuterie, pâté, Salad Lyonnaise, or herb-roasted chicken.
