14 Barrels produced
Tempranillo (pronounced tem-pra-NEE-yo) is the basis for the world-renowned Rioja wines of Central Spain, and this small production vintage is sourced from a certified sustainable vineyard located in the rolling hills of southern San Joaquin County, where it is exposed to similar climatic conditions to those found in the Iberian Mountains of La Rioja - hot daytime temperatures with big diurnal swings, and a short growing season. The grapes were hand harvested in early September, tank-fermented for 21-days, and then barrel-aged for 20-months in a combination of French & American oak (50% new barrels). Dense and inky, it has a vibrant berry-edged nose, rich flavors of Bing cherry, dark chocolate, licorice, graham crackers and ginger, and an elongated finish, exquisitely framed by earthy leather tannins that will enable this robust wine to continue its aging process in the bottle through 2027. Have fun pairing it with zesty BBQ fare, roasted vegetables, paella, Manchego cheese and a variety of Spanish tapas.
