2015 Pinot Noir
14 Barrels produced
Tony Truchard defied conventional wisdom when he planted this 4 acre parcel in the Carneros region of Napa back in 1974. At that time, the area was believed to be too cool and dry to farm grapes, but today it’s considered one of California’s premier Pinot Noir growing sites - it’s unique geographic alchemy and marine-moderated temperatures providing ideal growing conditions for this fickle grape. The 2015 growing season produced another spectacular vintage from these 43-year-old vines, garnering 93-points and a Gold Medal at this year’s prestigious SF Chronicle International Wine Competition. Warm, bright and full of flavor, this medium-bodied wine is a wonderful combination of fruit, earth and spice. It has a ruby-edged color and aromas of cranberry and dried herbs that engage the senses and co-mingle with a palate of rich dark cherry, loamy earth and black pepper. Barrel-aged for 18-months in French oak (50% new barrels), it is beautifully balanced, with delicate tannins, firm acidity and a lingering finish. It is deliciously approachable now, but will continue to reward through 2023. Enjoy it with all your favorite vegetarian dishes, Boeuf Bourgogne, wild game, Peking duck and smoked salmon. This is elegance in a glass!
