2009 Port
Picchetti Winery
529 Cases Produced
A luscious fortified port, comprised of 50% Zinfandel and 50% Petite Sirah from the Bellicitti Ranch in Saratoga. 2009 was Harry Bellicitti's final vintage, and while he is no longer with us, his dynamic spirit lives on through his wines, family and friends. Fermentation of this unique "vineyard-designated" port was terminated after just a few days by the addition of 187 proof grape alcohol (comprising approx.16% of the total volume), creating a wine with substantial natural residual sugar and very high alcohol content. It was then aged for 24-months in neutral oak barrels filled to only 85% capacity, which permits the oxidative flavors and aromas to develop. The beautiful fruit and spice from the Zinfandel is omnipresent, and is complemented by the richness of the Petite Sirah. Opulent and substantial, it is lightly touched with vanilla and tobacco leaf with a silky mix of red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit. It gains concentration through the middle, and then lingers through a long smooth finish. This elegant dessert wine is perfect for sipping at cellar temperatures with dark chocolate, a blue cheese such as Stilton, dried fruit and smoked ham, or on its own after a meal. Drop by the Winery on the weekend of Feb 11-12, and enjoy it with our complimentary chocolate fountain and assorted treats. It comes in a 750ml bottle, and the 20% alcohol content will permit it to last for weeks after it is opened. Pure decadence!
