Vino di Vicino translates from Italian to Wine of the Neighborhood in English, and this appropriately named release is a classic blend of Bordeaux varietals from five local vineyards. It is made up of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon (from Leslie's Montebello Estate and the Quarry Hill Vineyard in Los Altos Hills), 42% Merlot (from the Bellicitti Ranch in Saratoga and the Dorcich Vineyard in San Martin) and 4% Petit Verdot (from Uvas Creek). The lots were barrel-aged separately for over 4-years in mostly French oak (50% new), and our winemaker then selected her favorite barrels from each lot for blending. It is very approachable now, and the integrated tannins and balanced acidity should permit it to mature for a further 8-10 years. Luscious Cabernet flavors dominate the blend, with dry red fruit and baking spices. Pair it with a grilled ribeye steak, braised short ribs or your best roasted prime rib. This vintage is further evidence of why 2007 was considered such an outstanding year for California Cabs. Buenisimo!
