This classic blend of Southern Rhône varietals pays homage not only to Vincenzo & Segundo Picchetti, who established their iconic winery in 1896, but also to to Grant & Cameron, whose family took over the stewardship 20 years ago. It is made up of 60% Grenache & 40% Syrah, sourced from two small vineyards, nestled between the Santa Lucia and Gabilan Mountains in Monterey County. Strong winds, abundant sun, and scarce rainfall give this region one of the longest and coolest growing seasons in California, producing wines with remarkable aromatic and textural complexity. The two lots were vinfied and barrel-aged separately in a combination of 70% French & 30% American oak for 2-years before blending, the judicious use of oak adding a layer of velvety tannins. Wild berries, crushed herbs, violets and pipe tobacco are just some of the aromas you’ll find in this Old World style wine. Its elegantly structured palate doles out juicy black cherry marinated in fig, cinnamon, mocha and nutmeg, while the bright acidity and refined tannins provide supple support and impeccable balance. In perfect storage conditions, we expect this wine to evolve in the bottle through 2025. Pair it with all your favorite winter comfort foods, rich tomato-based dishes and pungent cheeses.
Another Picchetti first!
