Nestled in the heart of suburbia on Allendale Avenue in
Saratoga, the Bellicitti Vineyard produces a vibrant Zinfandel, bursting with flavors of dark fruit, baking spices, cracked black pepper, tar and anise. 2009 was an uncharacteristically dry growing season, and these grapes were harvested just prior to a late September heat wave. This vintage was barrel-aged for two years in American oak (25% new), which contributes to the subtle aroma of caramelized wood. The fruit intensity and firm acidity in this quintessential Bellicitti Zinfandel is very approachable now, but will further reward with up to 5 more years in the bottle. Serve with lightly spiced dishes, such as barbequed ribs, Italian sausage or Cioppino.
