Grace Vineyards, El Dorado County
Tempranillo (pronounced TEM-PRAH-NEE-YO) is the noble grape of Spain, and this is our second vintage from El Dorado County, home of Picchetti’s South Lake Tahoe Tasting Room. The vineyard is located at an elevation of 2,800 feet, and is a close match to the climatic conditions found in Tempranillo’s Spanish homeland. The 2008 growing season was unusually dry, resulting in smaller berries with deep color and robust tannin.
The grapes were harvested in early September, tank-fermented for 21-days, and then barrel-aged for 34-months in French oak barrels (30% new). This vintage will continue to age in the bottle for the next 3-5 years. A vibrant berry-edged nose is bolstered by subtle earthy-leather tannins. The balanced acidity in this full-bodied wine make it the perfect accompaniment to a wide variety of foods. Have fun pairing it with zesty BBQ fare, paella, sheep-milk cheese or a variety of Spanish tapas. As they say in Spain, “Goce” or Enjoy!
