Zinfandel is the signature grape of California, and our Saratoga Zinfandel vineyard has produced an outstanding vintage in 2005. Zinfandel became especially popular during the California Gold rush days when rowdy miners would enjoy it in excess after a hard day of prospecting. It is a bold and generous grape that can compete with other great varietals. This vintage is very fruit forward with a spicy and jammy aroma, while tasting juicy in the mouth. Its fruit intensity and firm acidity enable the wine to pair brilliantly with a broad range of dishes; from casual-rustic-nostalgic foods (pizza, ribs, sausages, meatloaf, hamburgers) to masterpieces of international cuisine (particularly those involving lamb, game, duck, and beef). We tested this vintage with BBQ’d pulled pork sandwiches and it was outstanding! Pair it all summer long with your favorite BBQ’d spicy food.
